I have decided to document this class photographically.
CORE is Contemporary Arts Practices - the closest thing to a required course for incoming freshmen at the SMFA. It is meant as an introduction to the art world, the Boston Art Scene, and supposed to get us starting to think about ourselves as artists.
It is certainly doing that for me. Dragging me kicking and screaming out of the digital world and forcing me to get my hands dirty.
It's fun!
I have decided to give up going to Guatemala for Christmas vacation and stay home and build myself a studio in my basement.
Over the past few years, going to Guatemala has allowed me to re-find photography and deepened my commitment to my art. Strangely, Giving up Guatemala has somehow also been an important step on this strange path I am on. When I gave up a planned trip the last time, a year ago, that is when I embarked on this path, made the decision to go to art school in the first place.
And now, here I am again, giving up Guatemala to create a studio for myself. Yet another level commitment.
